Privacy Policy

elemChat is designed to keep your data on your device. This document explains exactly what we collect, what we don't, and why.

1. Information we don't collect

elemChat does not operate a backend service. We have no servers that process, store, or relay your conversations.

• We don't collect or store your chat messages. Every message you send goes directly from your iPhone to OpenRouter's API and back.
• We don't collect your OpenRouter API key. Your key is stored locally in iOS Keychain and never transmitted anywhere except OpenRouter.
• We don't run analytics. No usage tracking, no telemetry, no third-party SDKs.
• We don't have user accounts. There's nothing to sign up for, no email collected.

2. Information stored on your device

The following data lives locally on your iPhone (and iCloud, if you opt in to backup):

• Chat history — every conversation, message, and attached file, stored using Apple's SwiftData framework.
• App settings — your default model, system prompt, theme preference, and per-chat configuration.
• OpenRouter API key — stored in iOS Keychain with the standard system encryption.
• Folders & favorites — your organization and model preferences.

3. Third-party services

OpenRouter

elemChat sends your messages, attached files, and selected model parameters to OpenRouter (the routing service you're using). OpenRouter then forwards them to the model providers you've selected. Their privacy policy and the privacy policies of each underlying model provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, Meta, etc.) govern what they do with that data.

elemChat does not modify, log, or proxy this traffic — it travels directly from your device using TLS.

Apple services

If you enable iCloud backup (coming soon), your chat history will be backed up via Apple's iCloud, subject to Apple's privacy policies.

4. In-App Purchases

If you choose to unlock elemChat Pro, the purchase is processed by Apple via the App Store. We receive only the receipt confirming the unlock — Apple does not share your payment details, name, or email with us.

5. Children

elemChat is not directed at children under 13. The app provides access to general-purpose AI models, which may produce content unsuitable for children. We recommend the App Store age rating reflected on the listing.

6. Your rights

Because all data is local, you control it directly:

• Delete any chat, folder, or attachment from within the app.
• Export your chats (coming soon).
• Reset the entire app by deleting it from your iPhone — this removes all local data including your API key in Keychain.

7. Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and note material changes in the app's release notes.
